so i dont know if i should apologize or just say that i appreciate everyone's inout on this subject, but since reading what everyone has to say, i am okay with jase driving the bug. i guess it was just the initial shock of a 16 year driving such an heirloom! but i have since found out that mom is just loaning the car, she didnt give or sell it to him. all i have to say is, "JASE, this car means a lot to all of us as you can tell, so treat it with respect." okay im done.
NOW as far as the VW bus and being fair, i used to have to sit on the cooler, remember the old red metal one, while mom slept in the back, sean sat in the front, and jillian was in the playpen. and i too looked down and watched the freeway go by through the hole, but it was entertaining only going 55 mph to utah and listening to Neil Diamonds Coming to America!!!!! i think we all got the short end of the stick except for mom and sean!
and i also remember me and josh riding in the back of the bug.....how the heck did we fit back there? and dads datsun? are you seriously telling me that all 6 kids, sorry jill, fit in that 2 seater sports car at once? yes. us three girls laid in the back, fogging the window while we ran our fingers across the supposed de-fogger lines making it sound like an instrument!
PS i stole the bug when i was 15 from the backyard, ditched school and drove it all over town! I hadnt even official learned how to drive stick yet!
You all are awesome! I'm hoping to get my family sharing stories on a blog like this!
ReplyDeleteBobby remembers this bug too and has stories of his own :) We've been thinking for a couple of years how great it would be to either buy a bug or bus for our kids (and us).
I too grew up riding in our VW bus to Utah to visit one of the elders who taught my dad the Gospel. We'd also have the center bench removed and my mom would make a big bed for the then 3 or 4 kids. I don't remember who got the bench, I think we all wanted to be on the floor. We would also peel back the bedding to be able to watch the asphalt on the highway underneath us. We'd have our green metal Coleman cooler between the two front seats and us kids would take our turns sitting in the 'front' with Mom and Dad and listening to our 8 track tapes.
Michele, as usual, would have us cracking up with her made-up stories and funny voices. She was always so ingenious with our favorite travel candy, Tootsie Rolls. (Were you allowed to have those with both your parents in dentistry?) She would make sculptures out of her Tootsie Rolls and Tony, Ryan and I would try and imitate. Those were some great times!
P.S. Of course this was all before Savannah was even thought of so she never experienced any of this with us.
