Our Story

three boys and four girls, we are the "real brothers and sisters!" California raised children, we are the products of the two most interesting people, cathy and dave warner. although all of us were raised the same, we have 7 completely different personalities. our lives are filled with challenge, joy, romance, divorce, chaos, failures, success, and parenthood. we are american life today.

sean the oldest is the leader and true example. he and robin have been married for 20 years and have 6 amazing kids. living in arizona has made their lives a little easier and fun. surviving the fire of his business, he is slowly building his company back to what it was.

jared is an amazing musician and drafsman. married to an only child, heather, they share 2 boys and 2 girls. jared has been working on keeping his marriage alive, and providing the support his family needs, while continuing to have some fun!

loyalty to his work and family have made christian successful in life. his wife dori is the love of his life and they also share 2 boys and 2 girls. living the american dream is their success.

danielle the first girl has been treated like royalty her whole life only to be humble about it now. 34 year old mother of 5 , she is a compulsive house decorator, constanly changing what she likes and wants. luckily her ever so patient husband jon loves her for it.

divorced for 8 years whitney has struggled with the religion she grew up knowing. she has lived in hollywood, studied in milan, and is working on starting a fashion business of her own. she's looking to settle down again and start a family.

ashley the quiet one, sometimes feels like an outsider, but is anything but. she is very loyal to those she loves and was blessed with the biggest heart ever. Divorced for a year now she is loving dating and finding herself again.

jillian the baby has had it good her whole life. she and todd have a 4 year old girl and almost 2 year old little boy. she is a talented interior designer and has the most amazing style. she has had to take a step back in life while her husband attends law school.

New Moon

That sounds like so much fun Whitney! Not sure when we would do it because I'm sure people have plans for shopping and such. But, we should definately try. I love going to the movies with my sisters. I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving and having the whole family here. Fun, fun, fun.

New Moon

OOps on that last post. I wanted to post this, but was trying to from my phone and it just didn't work out. So since everyone will be here for thanksgiving and most of us girls are anticipating the arrival of new moon, would you all like to plan a night to go see it? Maybe Friday or Saturday night?

let me know

20091028

seriously?

im really just going to be blunt here and ask why? why does nobody choose to participate in this blog? why does nobody even RESPOND to blogs written? why is it that i have a full time job, full time house duties (ie. cleaning, cooking, moving, organizing, etc.) AND have time to update 3 different blogs, facebook and myspace while nobody else can do these things? i have invited my entire family to a house warming party and NOBODY but Ashley has RSVP'ed. Why is this? Have i done something wrong? have I offended you? because i seem to think that i commit a lot of time to doing things for my family.

just wanted to know.

20091026

Have you heard?

If you follow my blog then you've already heard, but if not.....You're invited! This is for whoever!!!! This is our official house warming party so we would love everyone's support!

Thanks

Repy-"Im so excited"

Dude, i totally saw the preview for that last night! i vaguely remember watching that when we were young. I actually didn't remember until i read your post! it looks amazing whatever it is. finally something other than a murder show, comedy, or doctor show! Whoo Hoo!

In other news, Gordon and I are moving in this weekend and couldn't be happier! Mom and Dad have so graciously given (or lent) us the old black stand up piano that's in the barn. I figured everyone older than me has one so I was next in line. But we need help moving it! Can anyone volunteer their services one day?

PS we are having a house warming/Halloween party on the 31st. Invitations coming soon, but SAVE THE DATE.

I'm so excited!!

Has anyone seen the previews for the new show "V"?  It comes out in November.  It looks like they're changing it a little but keeping the main parts the same.  I don't know if it's a mini-series or what, but I am so excited.  I remember watching it on video all the time because we had it recorded.  For those who don't remember, it's the show where aliens that look like lizards (but disguised as humans) come to Earth to take over but try to deceive the humans by saying they came to help and wanted peace.  The best was when they would eat mice and tear off their fake skin.  I can't wait!!

4 Homos and a golfcourse

Well, i guess it's officially a tradition now, since this is the 2nd annual guys trip to Palm Springs to play golf. Thanks to Christian for setting it up both years now.....Sean, Christian, Eric Soto, and myself went friday morning out to Palm Springs and played 3 rounds of golf at 3 amazing courses on friday and saturday. We stayed at the La Quinta spa hotel, which has pools, spas, and many assorted spa treatment facilities.

It was a little warm, but not so hot that it wasn't fun. I had the closest to the pin shot, on a par 3, elevated t-box, over rocks, onto green, and came within a foot of pin, for birdie.

But Christian shot the best rounds overall, with Sean coming in 2nd and me in 3rd. It was very fun being able to hang out with my bro's, and have some guy time.

And you know what they say....."what happens in palm springs, stays in palm springs".......

thanks again Christian for putting a great weekend together.

Big Bear Vacation

Been awhile since i've posted anything.....i just wanted to tell mom and dad thanks for a great labor day weekend at big bear. We stayed at LaTrianon?....spelled wrong probably.....but you all know which cabin that is...we've stayed in it many times.

Ashley and friend were there, Christian and Dori, and me and Heather, and our kids of course. We swam, played badminton, horse shoes, celebrated birthdays, played games at night, watched football, ate, went on walks; just had all around fun and relaxation.

I have great memories of big bear, and love going up every time. And i'm glad our kids are able to have opportunities like this.

So, thankyou mom and dad for your generosity and planning.

Happy Birthday Dad!

I'm so honored that Dad chose to spend his birthday with us in Utah.  Just kidding.  I'm not a very good writer, but I just wanted to say I think we have a pretty cool dad.  I know Dad has his quiet side, but when I think of all the stuff he has done in his life, and raised seven kids, and was a Bishop and has had a successful career while doing all of that, I think he's pretty amazing.  Dad is funny in his own way, extremely talented, and not just in the music department, has always been the perfect movie date, as long as you don't ask more than three questions, and has a special place in his heart for the little grandkids.  Carley was soooo excited to see him this weekend, and I think Dad was equally as excited.  it was very cute to watch.
Anyways, I'm glad I was lucky to grow up with a Dad that loved us and took care of us, and helped us so patiently with our math homework; wait a minute, scratch that last one.
Love you Dad!!

Happy Birthday Mom!!

Another year gone by and another birthday too. Happy Birthday Mom! I want you to know we're all thinking about you, especially today and hope each year is happier than the one before. You are such a hard working, caring, supportive, loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and council women. You are always taking care of those around you and making sure everyone else is happy. You deserve a day to do what you want to do and relax. Thank you for your wonderful example and I'm so grateful to have you in my life. I love you...happy birthday.

traditions

wo its really been while since ive posted! i guess i just wanted to give the official THANK YOU to mom and dad for providing another WONDERFUL vacation for me and my lover in Newport Beach! I had some issues this year, but all in all I had an amazing time! im so greatful that i have parents who are very passionate about family tradition and have made sacrifices in their lives to provide those to their children and grandchildren.

I think it's funny that I work for them and they paid for my vacation (well I wasn't getting paid vacation hours, just a paid vacation). Gordon and I had a really good time enjoying each other that week, and heaven knows we needed a break from everything!

Sorry Jared that you were not here for this fun brother sister pic, but know that you were missed! we got to hang with you the next day when crash and sean werent there!

If you wanna see more fun pics from the trip you can visit my page or Jill's page!

We're here!!

Just wanted to give a quick update on how we're doing.  We made it to utah safe and sound, (thanks to Katie who drove with me), and we are getting settled in a little every day.  We had a good first week at church and were very excited to see all the people our age, and the huge primary.  Braden, Brynn, and Tanner have already gone to soccer practice and love their teams.  We got Jensen signed up for pre-school, and got the kids registered at Ridgeline elementary. Oh yah, and Jon is on a soccer team.  I'm going to have to work on that one for me.  Still waiting with news about the sale of the house, but the updates look good.  I'm going to try to blog on our site once a week.  Can't wait to see everyone again.

I love this bedroom

For anyone who's interested, Whitney led me to a really cool blog called House of Turquoise.  She posts a new pic everyday and the room is always some shade of turquoise with other stuff mixed in.  If you like house stuff it's pure eye candy.
I love the dark wall against the chalk colored night stands, and the upholstered head board.

New house

I just wanted to let everyone know what's going on with us with our move.  The moving truck comes this Monday, then we will go to Utah Tuesday, come back in time for Brynn's dance recital Saturday night,(sorry we're missing the baptism), go to the beach house after church on Sunday.  Send the kids up with Jon to soccer camp the next week, play in Ca. for a couple weeks, then head up for the final time Monday July 27th.  That sounds like a normal month for Mom, but not for us.  I'm just glad we have a lot of fun stuff in between the crazy stuff.  So here is our new address.
6625 W Burgundy Way
Highland, Utah 84003
I can't believe this is really happening!!!!!
I'm feeling a huge mix of emotions, but I know this is the right thing to do for our little family and I really appreciate everyone's help and support.  Can't wait for the BEACH HOUSE!!!
Here are some pictures just for fun.

Happy Birthday Jilly Bean!

so Jillian (the youngest) turned 26 last week! So instead of my usual talking about all her great qualities and fun personality, which I have to say she is amazing, I thought I would feature her amazing hair over the last 26 years!

she was so cute with this 1/4 pony tail my mom used to pull tightly in her hair!
Photobucket

i just love this picture of her.....and her cute curly hair!
Photobucket

i think this is when our mother decided that taking half of our hair, pulling it forward, chopping it into bangs, AND THEN perming it would be cute!
Photobucket

and her famous bo-derek braids we did every summer! Beads not included!
Photobucket

the scrunchy look was really "in" in the 90's! throw some mouse in, flip your head over, scrunch, and GO!
Photobucket

and my favorite of all, her red low lights she did to the bottom half of her hair! she was one-of-a-kind and very creative I must say!

love you Jill!

its a sad day to see the salmon go....

so here it is! an almost, so close, not quite there library! what do you think? hooray for mom for being brave and letting dad choose the final color and not going with another beige! thanks jillian and me for suggesting such a bold color. AND thanks danielle for providing her dining room paint swatch for mom and dad.

i think it turned out amazing! don't you? and now we are trying to decide whether or not to keep the random pieces of white trim white, or paint them red?

don't mind the blue tape. one more coat to go!

Reply-"blast"

why do us warner kids always seem to be getting hurt? i think it's because we are tough players! LOL. Im sorry Jill that you hurt yourself. That really sucks that you can't move your wrist!! maybe todd will be more lovey dovey for a few weeks, wash your hair, make you food, and scratch your back! ha ha! hope the doctor goes well!!!!

20090622

•••blast•••

i am so mad....i had indoor soccer tonight and in the first minute my hip started hurting so bad. my hip has been hurting for about 2 weeks from running and it hit a peak tonight. then after half time they put me in goalie {i don't know why} and i stopped a ball with both hands and BAM my wrist just shot with pain. it immediately went limp and i couldn't move it at all. i got out of the game and as time progressed i could feel it swelling up more and more. so now i cannot turn my wrist, and cannot bend it, i cannot hold ANYTHING, and it is really swollen. i am so mad.....1. because I'm a mom! hello! i have to hold things and use my hands constantly 2. i cant play soccer anymore 3. i cant play tennis anymore 4. i cant wash my hair 5. i cant hold my kids 6. its my birthday in 2 days. bottom line, i am going to the doctor tomorrow and i am SO ANGRY!!!!

time flys

so gordon went back to work this morning. its been 7 months since his accident. was he ready? absolutely not. but I think it is a good thing.

So he went to the Dr. last week and they released him based on his knee surgery, but they released him to work with limited activity! So gordon thought, no big deal, his job requires a lot of activity so they wouldn't want him back yet! well his boss said, "come in Monday morning!" so all weekend he's been stressed, poor guy.

He went back this morning and found out he has to work in the office for awhile. I told him it'll be good because he'll gain experience on that end of it, that he will have a leg up over all the other guys!

love you babe!

Movie update!

so dad and I went and saw Terminator Salvation last night. Has anyone seen it? It was so awesome! Loud the entire time, but so cool! I think they left it open for another one because they never terminated the terminators!!!! LOL

I also went with Gordon last week to see Land of the Lost! It was so freakin funny! I love Will Ferrel though, and if you don't then you will NOT like the movie. It is so incredibly cheesy too, but still funny!

update...& {HAPPY BELATED}

so thank you to the few readers that we have here! You are all MORE than welcome to comment whenever! I love doing this but I hate that nobody else feels my same enthusiasm......

so i just wanted to say HAPPY BELATED birthday to my one and only 40 year old brother jaRAD! He is the most awesome down to earth guy! I thought Id share a few of my favorite things about him:

1. he is the silliest person I know

2. he ALWAYS makes people laugh. i love that he says funny things under his breath so only a few people can hear!

3. he's a good sport! he played indoor soccer with me, danielle, and Jon a few years ago. he drove all the way from Murrieta to be our goalie which wasn't his favorite, but he did it anyway AND never complained. (i'm a bad loser so its amazing that he can be a good one!)

4. He loves reggae and doesn't care that it's not "cool"

5. he has the most amazing natural musical talent! i swear he can play everything, AND write anything he wants!

6. he cares about everyone in his family so much! he finds the good in all.

7. he is always down to have a good time! wake board, snowboard, play soccer, camp, etc. he isn't afraid to get dirty!

8. he married the perfect woman for him! what a lucky guy to have heather in his life!

9. he has the 4 most amazing, kind, funny, loving kids......

10. he is an example to me. i learn from him everyday and am grateful and LUCKY to be his sister!

LOVE YOU JARED!

Mr. President, who's side are you on?

Mr. President, you are making me ill! You go over to the middle east, which in and of it'self is fine, many presidents have gone over there to meet with the leaders of those nations. But, never have I heard such a sell out! You spoke about 6000 words in your speach yesterday, not one time did you say the work "terror" or "terrorist". Hello....... You refered to the 911 attack as an attack against our society and that we need to be careful how we react to these things! (I'm paraphrasing of course, I don't remember the words specifically, just the idea I walked away with in my head after hearing the speach). Hello......This was an act of war! We were attacked by an orginized group of people. Now, they do not represent a nation, but they sure represent a group. A group of extreme radicals with hatred, using their religion as a source of inspiration and direction. I feel sorry for true Muslums in this world. I am sorry that they will be steriotyped, it's not fair to good Muslums that have no hate. Sorry that your brothers and sisters are whack jobs and can't think!

So Mr. President, a question for you. Are you the president of our America or your America? I think you are president of your America, which is not the America that exists today, or that faught for freedom over 200 years ago, or continues to provide freedom to the small and week of our world, or provides the freedom to speak up and speak out, or the freedom to the pursuit of happiness, or all the other freedoms that My Grandpa and others faught to keep for us, for me, for You! Your America does not exist yet, but what I fear is that you will continue in your pursuit to make it that way. An America of no freedoms unless you are the elite, the America of socialism, take from the producers and give to the non producers, an America of talking to our enemies when talking clearly does not work.

You are weak! I'm tired of you, and I'm not going to keep quiet about it. I appreciate all people that speak up about you, and hope it continues for another year and a half so we can vote out all the idiot Senators and Reps in the house, so you don't have the majority anymore, so you have to stop with your stupid moves. Then, I'm not going to keep quiet for two more years, so we can vote you out. By then, all the people that voted for you will have finally figured you out! That you are trying to change this great America that we live in, and then you and your cronies will be gone!

Sean

Sorry for not writing

Sorry for not writing comments......just not into blogging too much....would rather just see you in person and have a good conversation anyway...

there is a lot going on in the world today.....Obama sucking up to Muslim extremists....another state legalizing homosexual marriage.....dictator countries becoming more and more unstabble...i mean i could go on and on......

we just had thunder, lightning, and hail storms here in Murrieta,,,,,that never happens...

so many signs of the times....it's amazing and scary....

i hope we are preparing for the future.....i hope we will not follow the masses.....i hope we all will choose the right side and right team to be on......cuase the battle is here and it's only gonna get worse

My Birthday.....no big deal

No plans as of yet for birthday..........but.....no big deal.....i think birthdays are overrated and egotistical anyway........no need for cards,presents,surprises,etc........no pressure.....if i go out to lunch or dinner with heather that night....that's enough.....

sames....

well i have to admit...i feel the same way as ashley. i have nothing important enough to talk about! pretty sad, i know. i don't know enough about current events to comment about or even have an opinion about. my life consists of having no husband for a month, getting my baby weight off, having my one night a week of soccer, living with my in-laws, taking care of the 2 kids, waking up in the middle of the night every night, FINALLY working out every day, going swimming, swimming lessons, church on sunday, movie rentals, summer tv shows, and occasional lunch with friends. sorry.....its a typical stay at home mom life. that's why i feel i don't have much to say. i will say i love all my siblings, and i do enjoy hearing from all of you on this blog since i don't talk to some of you very often!

{mom, i know you are judging me for not capitalizing, but i did it on purpose...i think it looks cuter}

can you please just say something?

I'm sorry Whitney, I know how much you want this blog to be successful and we're not really participating like we said we would. I love to read all the entries and sometimes feel like my thoughts aren't very interesting, but I promise I'll make more of an effort to blog. Thanks for your enthusiasm and time you take for our family.

can you please just say something?

so first of all, i feel like i am the ONLY brother and sister that ever posts anything.

second, i want to take a poll to see who is actually reading this? can those that EVER even glance by this blog please leave a comment? i would love to see if we are interesting enough to keep coming back, or do we need to up the amount of info we are posting?

don't be afraid, don't be shy, i love strangers, and i really need some feedback!

thanks, y'all!

20090603

its not over the hill anymore.....its over the MOUNTAIN!

so its Jared's birthday next week and he is going to be the crazy 40! So what are you planning Jared and Heather? if nothing, then what are we planning family? you only turn 40 once so lets celebrate!

20090527

We are still talking about prop 8?

'The California Supreme Court yesterday upheld Proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage but also ruled that gay couples who wed before the election will continue to be married under state law.The decision virtually ensures another fight at the ballot box over marriage rights for gays. Gay rights activists say they may ask voters to repeal the marriage ban as early as next year, and opponents have pledged to fight any such effort. Proposition 8 passed with 52% of the vote.'

John and Ken KFI 640

What do you all think? Is this over or just begining! I think they will keep fighting for these rights until they die.

much appreciation

well guys, Monday was very rewarding for Gordon and me. We appreciate so much all the willingness and hard work that came from our family. we missed those that weren't able to be there, but formed great new memories with those that were. as most of you know there are many trials that come when fixing up a house, so we cant thank you enough for helping to ease those trials for a short time! I'm so thankful that i have such a amazing family, brothers and sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews, and of course parents and grandma that are supportive of me and now gordon. we love you all so much and will be posting pictures soon!

20090522

california

i am VERY happy to report that Californians beat the governments efforts to pass 5 outrageous propositions on Tuesday. Prop F passed, but that's okay because the other 5 didn't. Now they are pointing their fingers at the people saying that we don't really understand and that now we will suffer.

Well i say lets get rid of them and start over. Let our state file bankruptcy, let them pay for their actions, the same way we do as children when we make a bad choice! I hope more than anything that the US government does not decide to bail them out. We don't need a slap on the wrist, we need a slap in the face.

The new update on the budget crisis is this:
'Governor Schwarzenegger is considering a budget plan that would hit poor people and college students the hardest. It would end the state's main welfare program. Health insurance for low-income families would also be axed, so would a grant system that helps students go to college.'
(kfi)

What do you think?

I was listening to John and Ken last night and they said that this idea is great because all the poor people collecting these benefits will move out of the state and go collect somewhere else like Texas or Arizona! Sounds good to me!

Good luck state of California! I'm glad I work for a private sector!

20090518

no, no, no, no, no, no

for anyone that lives in California MUST vote in tomorrows election. Do you know what you are voting for? Cobalt and Shampoo (what I call them) aka John and Ken from KFI have been informing californians for months now. PLEASE take the time to read these propositions. Its insane what Arnold is trying to do. I could sit here and rip on our state government and what it has turned into but I dont have the will to sit here for an hour and type.

I feel outraged that they are trying to raise our taxes yet again. So please do your part and stop the taxes!

John and Ken’s Special Election Voter GuideThe election is May 19th. Vote 'No' early and often!

Proposition 1A-VOTE NO
State Budget. Changes California Budget Process. Limits State Spending. Increases "Rainy Day" Budget Stabilization Fund. This is the 2 year tax increase!

Proposition 1B-VOTE NO
Education Funding. Payment Plan. “Payoff” to Teachers Union

Proposition 1C-VOTE NO
Lottery Modernization Act. No more borrowing schemes!

Proposition 1D-VOTE NO
Protects Children's Services Funding. Helps Balance State Budget. This feeds the spending beast

Proposition 1E-VOTE NO
Mental Health Services Funding. Temporary Reallocation. Helps Balance State Budget. This feeds the spending beast too

Proposition 1F-VOTE NO Elected Officials' Salaries. Prevents Pay Increases During Budget Deficit Years. Don’t “reward” Senator Abel Maldonado—The last vote to raise your taxes

They had a rally this weekend down in Corona that was a huge success. Check out this article that the OC register wrote regarding the rally.

memorial day {2009}

Photobucket

come one come all. this invite is to ANY who read this blog, but most definitely for the family. since a few years ago we tried to start the tradition of "service" on memorial day since that's what we are celebrating, the service of our country men and women, I think it would be appropriate to continue the tradition.

gordon and i would like to invite you to our new house for swimming and good food. But while having fun, those that are able can come inside and do some service! we need all the help we can get with demo, painting, lifting, and advice! We don't expect all day help, maybe maybe an hour or so and then swim!

please let me know if you're interested!

Sunday Fun-day

Sorry that it's been awhile. I have more political post coming so get ready, but for now since sunday was mother's day, this is my official shout out to all you mothers!

I have so many mothers in my life, meaning I KNOW, so many mothers. I watch, admire, learn, love, laugh, and cry with them all. Please remember that it is the greatest gift that god could give us women:motherhood.

I love and appreciate you all and the rolls you play in my life.

First 100 days - 4th installment

Did the President, after campaigning against pork and earmarks, really sign bills that include both? Yes. Will the President's new budget really triple and quadruple the annual deficit? Yes. Will the President's budget really double the national debt within a few years and then increase still more beyond that? Yes. Do the President and members of Congress, many of whom never operated so much as a T-shirt concession booth, really believe that they can "modernize" healthcare, thus "saving" taxpayers buckets of money? Yes.

America traditionally represents the greatest possibility of someone's going from nothing to something. Why? In theory, if not practice, the government stays out of the way and lets individuals take risks and reap rewards or accept the consequences of failure. We call this capitalism -- or, at least, we used to.

Today's global downturn reflects too much borrowing and too much lending. But would borrowers and lenders -- at least in America -- have engaged in the same kind of behavior but for artificially low interest rates under the Federal Reserve System? Would borrowers and lenders have acted as precipitously but for the existence of Fannie and Freddie, which bought up their mortgages? Would banks have so readily lent money to those who clearly could not repay it but for the Community Reinvestment Act? That law pressured banks into relaxing their normal lending standards to help low-income borrowers.

Just my response

Sean and Jared, I don't keep up with the politics like you guys do, so I'm glad you do and you let us know what's going on.  I agree with you %100 and I just keep thinking it's the last days and the gray area is disappearing.  I think from now on it's going to be a fighting battle and we just have to believe that things will someday be made right.  The only thing we can do is to do our best to protect our families and keep the faith.  For the first time since I am seriously thinking about stuffing cash under my mattress and having a year's supply of diapers and tampons to barter if necessary ( that is Amie's idea).
Yesterday at Tanner's baseball game, one of the coaches freaked out twice because we wouldn't let his hitters take extra pitches so they could get a hit no matter what, and his parents were yelling also.  "They're 6 and 7 years old", and "this is minor A, let them hit", they said.  So even though it was against the rules and our team was trying to follow the rules, we were still being yelled at.
So I have two points.  First, sometimes we can get away with not following rules, or bending them because we think it's for the greater good, but then we don't learn to have boundaries.  Second, this just supports a whole new generation of everyone wins, lets give everyone what they "need" to make them feel better.  It makes me sick! but I have to say, all of our parents stood behind following the rules and letting the boys learn that you don't always win.  It made me feel hopeful that there are still people out there that are fighting for the things in our society that are deteriorating.

Inspiration & Love

In this world of peril, confusion and hopelessness, I find inspiration and love in the small things everyday.

It's in a song, a good deed, a friendly smile or a laugh. I see it in a child's face, so innocent and peaceful and so full of love. I feel it in the service of my family and friends. I see it when someone cares enough to listen and never judge.

I find hope for myself when I take the time to see, listen and feel the abundance of inspiration and love all around me everyday.

All I can do is thank my Heavenly Father for loving me so much to bless me with His wonderful gifts.

First 100 days - 3rd installment

Firmly in charge of much of the domestic car industry, Obama effectively fired the CEO of General Motors. He threatens to fire still more executives in the parts of the financial services industry currently under the management, direction or control of Uncle Sam -- that eminent, well-regarded banker.

Obama blames the financial crisis on "greed" and the "lack of regulatory oversight." Funny thing about greed. Celebrated investor-turned-Obama-supporter/adviser Warren Buffett says, "Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful." Apparently, some practice good greed, while others engage in greedy greed. As for regulation, the SEC already heavily regulates most of the troubled financial institutions. The world's largest insurer, AIG, operated under heavy regulation.

The government-sponsored entities Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae -- blamed for irresponsibly buying, packaging, and selling bad mortgages -- are regulated by a government agency, called the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight. Its sole responsibility is to oversee those two agencies. OFHEO, shortly before the government takeover of Freddie and Fannie, gave them two thumbs up.

Hello, does this worry anyone?

what team will you be on?

We always hear the term "signs of the times"....but we really are seeing signs of the times.....
we elected a president, who wants to cuddle up with the rest of the world....no matter what their values are...wants to apologize for how America has acted in the past..even though most of the time we have been the most noble and un-selfish country in the world....

we can see that right is become wrong....and morals are being laughed at...just like in Lehi's dream...

we see Daniel's prophecies at the doorstep, ready to burst open...in following what's going on in the European union and the UN....

more and more dominos keep falling to usher all of these "signs of the times"....and just this week, the democrats gained 1 more seat in the senate, making almost possible to pass any bills...

this is very scary if you ask me....but, what Joseph Smith prophicied will come to pass....our nation's constitution will hang by a thread some day, and it is unraveling more and more every day

so...who's team do each of us wanna be on? the world's team? or God's team?!

it's certainly easier to be on the world's team, since most people are joining that team....but in the end, that team will lose.

First 100 days - 2nd installment

Obama proposes spending billions (or trillions?) more on "creating or saving" -- whatever that means -- 4 million, 3.5 million, or 2.5 million jobs. Pick a number. Given the government's vast business expertise, Obama proposes spending gobs of money to "invest" in green jobs. And he's just warming up. He wants taxpayers to guarantee, presumably to all who request it, a "world-class education" -- whatever that means.

My simple view on things. Government spends money, government income = taxes paid my you and me, taxes come from you and me working or investing succesfully, pay taxes from that money, which means less money in my pocket, and less money in company bank account, means company doesn't have as many employees and I don't spend as much money in the public economy, which means less money to the government, which means less jobs, which means government thinks they need to help create jobs, which means, more taxes so they can spend more money, which means.....

what a bunch of crap! How about let the public econimic system work on it's own, with little regulation (like don't force banks to lend to unqualified want to be home owners????)

Just my opinion of course!

Re living the pre-mortal war in heaven

This kind of goes along with Sean's post....but totally different...
We are seeing unprecidented decisions being made in the world....in particularly...our nation.
These decisions are supposedly being made in our behalf....by basically one person. Does this bring back any memories of the pre-mortal council in heaven? Now..i'm not comparing Obama to Lucifer...by any means...but, it is interesting to note..that Obama is making decisions and policy that will enable everyone...or at least most people...to have money, health insurance,a job, this, that, and the other....
He is creating policy that pretty much takes choice away from us....he is stripping away the free enterprise system..little by little...and trying to guarantee that everyone has everything they need....

Does this at all, compare to the plan Lucifer had for us? He wanted to guarantee all of us a free ticket to exaltation and eternal life with Heavenly Father....but he wanted all the credit.....Christ on the other hand said he would be our Savior...and that all the glory would go to Heavenly Father. God's plan was for us to all have the same chance on Earth, and have the choice of how we would live our lives.

This whole idea of socialism, communism, collectivism, is pretty much mirrors Lucifer's plan. And although Obama and his sheep, think they are doing the public good, they are just helping the advisary fulfill his plan.

And we see more and more people going along with Obama and socialism.

We need to be careful to not fall into this trap. It may seem noble and kind and charitable to take care of everyone, but there is a right way to do it, without taking away free will. God only exists becuase of free will.

First 100 days

I read this article today about the first 100 days. I would like to share it with you in paragraphs so it's not too much at one sitting. Please pay attention to what is being said. I don't care what your political party is, this is important to really listen to, and see what is going on and what direction things are going.

Has it really been 100 days?

Aided by an eagerly compliant Democratic-controlled Congress, a sycophantic media, and a bunch of squishy Republicans, President Obama has taken the country on a radical, mind-boggling leap into collectivism. Obama -- to use one of his favorite expressions -- doubled down, no, tripled and quadrupled down on Bush's "stimulus" and "rescue" packages, spending trillions of dollars to "bail out" financial institutions, too-big-to-fail businesses, and even deficit-running states. Obama promises to use taxpayer money to rescue "responsible homeowners" -- whatever that means -- from foreclosure, thus artificially propping up prices that shut out renters who would love to buy now-much-cheaper houses.

Sean and Christian

I wanted to say a happy belated birthday to Sean and Christian.  I couldn't get to the computer yesterday.  Christian, I remember always trying to hang out with you not thinking that four years was a big age difference.  Now I know it was huge for kids and I appreciate you letting me tag along (sometimes).  Now four years is nothing and I love that all of us kids are pretty much the same age, kind of.  You are now in your late 30's, which is the new 20's, so no big deal.
Sean, yes you do sound like grandpa Dunn but in a new age younger generation kind of way.  Does that make you feel younger?  Seriously, I love that you aren't afraid to speak your mind, but are always aware of other people's feelings and opinions.  I still get comments from people around Brea that say how they were always impressed with you and how you treated others.  You and Robin have been the first to do everything, and I'm glad you are such a great example to us.  I never know what to say when you ask for advice with Jase.  I'm hoping when we get there you will have plenty to give us!
I'm blessed to have 3 big brothers, even though I am still teased to no end, I just tell myself you guys do it because you love me!

Happy Birthday to Me

Thanks for the birthday wishes today. Whit, thanks for what you said, I love being your brother, as I love being all my siblings older brother. It is a lucky and wonderful spot to be in, in the order of family members. Just so you know, raising our children has been the most wonderful thing in my life second only to marrying Robin.

Some wisdom from me as I am now a year older, and the only one in the 40's (only till June though). Cherish life, don't waste your time, be happy, be friendly, enjoy other's company, take time alone and meditate, ponder and pray, share your thoughts with others that they might learn from your experiences, don't think you are better than anyone no matter what they do or how they live their life, choose right over wrong always, show your love for those you love, be true to your beliefs and convictions, strive to be better every day.

Those are the thoughts that came to me, most of which I try to do and be. I notice people that try to live these or other attributes. I can tell between people that are arogant or just don't care.

I appreciate you all, and love you,

Happy Birthday to me, and to you when it's your turn!

happy birthday sean

Dear 1st born: happy birthday!
you are so loved and looked up to by all of your siblings and famliy. I have always loved your cool personality and fun way about you. You are so smart and full of wisdom that I feel many people don't get to see your full potential. You have been there to support me my whole life and have always loved me no matter what my decisions and personality choices at the time. I will always charish the memories I have of all the fun trips we've taken to lakes, rivers, and dunes. The time you and I sat on top of some jumping rocks and just talked until we got the nerve to finally jump off will always be one of my favorites. You and Robin have created and raised 6 amazing kids who I love just as much as you. So here's to you on your day of birth!!!! I love you so much!

Reply-"Go Speed Racer"

Jase: You're a DORK! I understand that you are young and you like to speed. Ashley and I were the exact same way, but this car that you're driving is going to fall apart if you treat it like that. Especially turning a corner like that, you are going to ruin it!

Sean: Yes we all need to learn lessons in our own due time. He will learn once he grows up! I think that he must have a consequence for sure. Car restriction for a week! Just like I suggested when he made Rilee walk. I know it puts Robin and you out, but you need to drive him everywhere. He feel the embarrassment and will realize himself that he doesn't want that to happen again. That's what happened to us and I think it worked, until we did it again. So stupid I was.

Gordon says that he needs to paying for his own car insurance, he needs to pay for the ticket and for traffic school. AND if he doesn't have a job already he needs to get one. If he's old enough to drive and get tickets, then he's old enough to pay for it himself.

20090409

Go speed racer!!!!!

Well, it happened. I don't think it suprised Robin or I, but Jase got a speeding ticket. Can you say Dumb! We warn, and warn, and explain, and warn, and explain, and beg, and get reports from others, and explain.....and he keeps speeding by. Well he got tagged by officer ticke giver yesterday going 47 in our neighborhood down the long curve. Robin and I drove there tonight and had a hard time getting to 47. Robin called the cop and talked to him tonight, and he explained that he really was going 47 and he could have arrested him and charged him. Luckely he gave him a civil citation that he can go to traffic school for and it won't show up on his record.

So, what do you do in a situation like this. He's a good kid. The officer even said so, but he just won't get it through his thick skull that we know things. I can't believe I was the same way!!! lol. Why do we do this as youngsters? We don't really listen to what those who have been through it before, and hear what they have to say. We don't take advantage of the experiences and the consequences that our elders went through. We have to experience some things on our own no matter what was said to us.

Really, please, share with me what we should do, how do we teach these lessons. Take the car away? how long? will that actually work? I resent ever being on restriction? Open for suggestions.

It probably doesnt' help that we have him driving a bright red car!

Hey, have a great week,
sean

I hope!

I'm going to give you my quotes of the day on the blog. I've been posting them on FaceBook as well.

Todays quote..."Hope is no basis for a defense policy."Who said it?

Yesterday's quote...."Don't expect to build up the weak by pulling down the strong." Calvin Coolidge

I hope no one launches another missle......I hope no more pirates take ships and captains hostage......I hope Iran doesn't get a nuke......I hope......and so on and so on! The quote is so real, and so meaningful. Reagan said trust but verify. I say the same thing. And when they don't do whats right, smash em. If I were in charge, and N. Korea launched a missle and was told not to by the world, I would first blow it out of the air, right after it launched. Have my guns aimed 50 feet above the launch pad, and then destroy the launch pad. Of course I would warn them I was aiming, and I'd let the world know what I was going to do. I think they would think twice before pushint the damn button.

Just a thought.....I hope, what a bunch of crap!

Sunday Fun-day

Mom and Dad started a great tradition of going to the Concert in the Parks in uptown Whittier. I remember having to go in High school and I hated it. I thought I was too cool for that. But as Ive grown older and continued to go every summer I have fell in love with it. Its a great way to get together as a family and enjoy the warm summer nights. The music is always great. Mom will usually get some good food, the kids go off to play and dance, and we go get an ice-cream treat! The grandkids have also fell in love with this tradition. Every time they get to go they have so much fun.

This picture is from about 3 years ago. Jared, Heather and kids came this time. We had fun climbing on Mr. Greenleaf and riding the wagon with grandma.

Defensive!!

I think it's natural to be defensive to a point.  If we weren't, it would mean that we don't really care about who we are or what happens to us in life.  I definitely the Warner girls are more dominant than the boys, but again, it's more natural for females to be more emotional than males, so I feel pretty good.  I'm just glad we care enough about each other to talk and though sometimes not pretty, hash things out.  I think that's way more fun and interesting than just suppressing everything and pretending that everything is great and not really getting to know people for who they really are.  Talking about the weather can only last so long.  I'm grateful that we can sit around the dinner table and talk about anything, (and not just for the value of talking to grownups).   I really do enjoy everyone's company and different opinions.

20090402

Am i really that defensive?

it was brought to my attention when i was talking to my good friend (cousin) Jeny Monson the other day, that us Warner kids can get VERY defensive. She wanted to tell me this because when we were on our 'girls trip,' me, ashley, jillian, and danielle seemed to get a little sensative when it came to what others said about us. The thing about us girls is that we would hear something, comment defensively back, really think about what the person said, and THEN we would realize it might be true, forgive (if needed), and move on. We leave each situation like that learning more about ourselves in a positive way.

Jeny on the other hand is such a non-sensative person when it comes to what others think about her and her family. She is sensative when it comes to things that are important to her, but she is a very strong person!

So my point is, well I dont know if I have a point. Im not sure why us kids are like this, but its not just the girls, its all 7 of us. Speaking for myself, i have realized that I need to take in what people might say to me without getting so defensive. Im not perfect and when people to say things that I feel are negative, I need to know that they love me and they are not saying it to put me down or make me feel bad.

Hope we can all work on this.

Thanks Jeny!

Reply-To ALL!

Danielle, I think that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays (2nd to thanksgiving) because of the traditions that Grandma has created! I used to love seeing my cousins at Grandma and Grandpa Dunns house every year and see what they were dressed up as. I loved the chili and I loved walking together as a family around the neighborhood.

These past few years I have gone to your house for it because your neighborhood is active just like Grandmas was. I love seeing my nieces and nephews get dressed up and be something different for one night! I especially love that they plan their costumes out for several years in advance!

Sean, its okay that you've slacked knowing that you're on FACEBOOK posting memories on there (ahem, obsessed)! But I still would love to see all that stuff posted on here so those without facebook can share in these memories!

I agree that I think it's good and healthy that family should get together and share time, advice, and experiences. It is sad to me that at times not everyone is able to participate. I have always put family first in my life and feel that everyone else is just the same way, but i have to remember that things that i feel important are not always that way with others. Our immediate family (gordon for me) will always come first, but remember that your siblings and parents are just as important and need to feel loved and wanted too. I hope I share my love with all of you. I am so in love with every single one of my nieces and nephews. I hope that see that from me.

We do need to support each other as much as we can. I know that Gordon and I will need it soon with our new house. All of you have gone through this with your families so now it's our time to experience all the renovations and everything that comes with it.

Jared and Hez! I am so ecstatic that you are adding to your amazing family. I can't wait to meet the little guy (or girl).

peace

Observations

Well, Whitney I apologize that I have not participated lately on the blog. I have had things I could have shared, but just never made the time to put it down in words.

Robin just got back with the two girls from their girls trip they had with all their cousins and sisters and Mom and aunts. They went on a short Mexico cruise and had a blast. I just got all the scoop on everyone that went and what everyone did. It sounds like they had a blast together. I'm glad they planned that and went.

I have also gotten little bits and pieces of the Warner girls trip, and how much fun you guys had as well. I'm sorry Dori and Heather were not able to go also, because they missed out. I'm glad to see things like this going on.

My title says "Observations", so you might ask why? I observed family members enjoying being together in a fun invironment, different than normal life. Its great! Family needs to be this way. We all have things going on in our lives, and always will. We need support from those we love and those that love us back. I'm grateful for two wonderful families that we have together from our marriage. I'm grateful that my children have all these wonderful aunts and uncles and grandmas and grandpas and extended family that they get to know and experience.

What I hope, is that we can all make sure and be supportive to each other in whatever ways we can. There are lots of ways to support, financial help, giving of time to babysit, preparing a meal, a phone call, a quick text, an entry in the family blog, etc.

Heather and Jared, congratulations! I wish you all the best! You will have challenges, it will change your life as you know it, but you will love the expereinces you will have with this late addition to the family. Your kids will have a great love for him/her.

Thanks to all for the support you have given and continue to give to us. We feel it and appreciate it.

Have a good week!

Sunday Funday

I think this is a great idea.  I was just looking through my pics and decided to post some Halloween stuff.  I was just reminded of how we grew up with our traditions during Halloween, and I love that all of us still think it's a big deal.  Usually, Ashley, Whitney, Mom and Dad, and Great Grandma come to our house for chili and trick-or-treating.  I love hearing that everyone else pretty much does the same thing, which I think go's to show that traditions really do mean something.

Sunday Fun-Day

so my memory this week is of a town called Laax Switzerland. Some people may know already that I went to Italy for three months to study. It was the fall of 2007 that I lived in Milan. Well part of the program was to give students 3 open weekends, this allowed us to go wherever we wanted. Dominic (the ex) was planning on coming out to see me the last week we were there which was also part of an open weekend. So with my passion for snowboarding I decided I wanted to go to Switzerland. I mean come on, what better mountains and snow can you get? So i researched the heck out of the country and found this town called Laax. It took us 2 train rides, a 2 hour bus ride to another bus, and a short walk to the town. 5 hours later we were there. It is the most beautiful town I have ever seen, and the mountains were the biggest Ive ever seen! I mean seriously its the home of the Matterhorn!

My friends came to meet us for a few days and we took advantage of sledding in the gorgeous snow! They didn't have snow clothes so we dressed them in trash bags! Dom and I enjoyed a day up in the Alps, a scenic walk around town, and the Swiss food is to die for!

Sisters Trip

It was a really great trip. It was really fun to just laugh again with all of you. I really enjoyed everyones company. Thank you whitney for your nice words....it was really sweet. Although I dont really know what you mean about I love my family as much as I love how I look....I didnt really know how to interpret that!?! I am grateful I have such wonderful sisters and sister in laws. I really feel like I can talk to you all about anything, and that you will always give me advice when I need it. It has been interesting being the youngest and watch everyone go through their life stages before me so I can learn from all of you and find the good and the bad and implicate it into my life. You all are examples to me in some way or another and even though I never say it I love each one of you!

20090328

sisters {my friends}

as you may know, we had our 2nd annual girls weekend in Scottsdale Arizona this last weekend. Last year Danielle had the idea to have a girls weekend because her and Jon were given a free weekend stay at time share hotel if they walked the tour. Great idea right? So she invited all the girls in the family, Robin, Heather, Dori, me, Ashley, Jillian, and Jeny Monson (cousin). We had a great time getting to know each other better without kids and husbands as distractions.

so this year Jillian thought that we should continue the tradition. Her baby was due at the end of February so we planned to do it in Scottsdale about a month after her due date. This gave us a chance to see the new baby and have Jill close enough to home so she could be there.

We invited everyone again and extended the invitation to the cousins, Amie and Katie, and the cousin in-laws. Since Amie is now in Arizona she decided to join in on the tradition. So weekend total was: Danielle, Whitney, Ashley, Jillian, Robin (for a part), Amie, and Jeny.

I was saddened the night before to get the news that Heather was not going to make it. She has her personal reasons for not being able to come and although I found myself upset, I realize that things come up and sometimes "girls weekends" are not a priority in life. We all missed her tremendously.

We had also invited Dori but she said no. Not really sure why but we wish she wouldve joined in.

But all in all it was fun to just get away from the element we are all used to on a day to day basis. I feel grateful to be able to spend that kind of time with my sisters. Most of you know that the Warner kids are extremely opinionated and competitive in their words to each other and to others. So being together with my sisters can get very energetic and loud. We find that we can really talk to each other about how we truly feel and this weekend was a perfect example of that. We said things to each other that may seem hurtful or judgemental, but in essence we say things and ask things out of love for each other. I feel like we have all grown closer to each other through these discussions and observations of each others lives.

I feel close to my brothers but it is not the same as being close to a sister. I love each one of them so much for many different reasons.

Danielle is the example and matriarch of the sisters. She is nonchalant in her every day doings and makes having 5 children and a husband a piece of cake. She is very smart although she can be a little absent minded at times. She has worked her butt off to be in the best shape of her life which gives me the confidence that i can do the same.

Ashley is very quite most of the time, but she is the most passionate of us all about the things she loves. It makes one wonder why we can't be the same way. She LOVES her job and she is amazing at it. She LOVES her family more then life itself but finds it hard sometimes to show it. She makes me laugh with her snide remarks and "whatever" attitude. Ashley will listen and never judge, she is a best friend.

Jillian is the funniest one of all. Her ability to "do voices" makes me laugh so hard that I wish I could be her! She cares just as much about her family as she does about how she looks, and I don't say that out of shallowness. Her style is unique and bold. She has so much potential with her style ideas, I don't think she even knows what to do with it. But someday you will see her name on items in Target! Jillian is an amazing mother.

I love you all so very much.

Happy Anniversary

This is the official day when it all started. Catherine Louise Dunn married David Allen Warner. They have been married for 44 years. They are such a great example of a successful married couple which is saying a lot nowadays. My parents mean so much to me words cannot even express. Although they have 7 children and 21 grandchildren, they manage to have a personal relationship with each one of us. They have taught me so much in my life and have been wonderful examples to me I am proud to call them my parents.

I love you both so much and wish you a Happy Anniversary!

{Sunday Fun-Day}

so its been almost three weeks of silence. How can 14 of us have absolutely nothing to say? well ive come up with a way that we will all be able to participate without feeling like we dont have anything to say. its called "Sunday Fun-day!" the object of the game is to post a few pictures from your computer that are from the past. They can be from 20 years ago or one year ago. Talk about the memory and experience you had. Try to make them about family. for example, I wouldn't post something about me and my friends going out to dinner one night, but i would post something like a trip we took over the summer!

sound good? pleased participate and PLEASE post "reply posts" to everyone else's even if it's a few words.

My memory is of Newport from 2006. This was the second year (I think) that mom and dad got the beach house down there. I love this family vacation we get to take each year because it brings us all together for a week. Even though the dads aren't there the entire time the grand kids have soooo much fun with each other and the girls can relax and enjoy a break from their homes.

Photobucket

Look how young and cute Jensen was! and this was the year that Mitchel really kicked butt boogie boarding. Jillian was pregnant with her first and she looked so cute in her bikini. She had her baby shower at the cheesecake factory with all the girls! The boys went to surf camp and the little girls loved playing dolls everyday!

Ashley's dream

Wow! I never have dreams like that.  I agree with Mom.  I think it's a sign reassuring you that you are loved and that Christ does know you and has already suffered for all of us.  Sometimes we forget that we really are significant in his eyes and that he really does know how we feel, because he literally does know exactly what we are going through.  We love you too.  Carley was sad that you weren't at dinner on Sunday.  She was asking for you.

Dear Ashley,
I started crying when I read your blog entry about your dream. I hope you know that the dream is telling you that our Savior loves you and cares about you as does Heavenly Father and your parents. Just remember Christ has gone thru all the pain you are going thru and will go thru in your life time.
Love you, Mom

New Topic-My dream last night

I had the craziest dream last night. Part of my dream was me and whitney and i think maybe dad and grandma and some other people. We were out in the desert or something camping…I don’t know. I just remember what the landscape looked like, it was desert like, with canyons and beautiful skies. It was gorgeous. Anyway, all of the sudden, it was like we were in Africa or something because all these beautiful animals came running by, from a far. There were zebras, lions, giraffes and others (I know this sounds really weird). There was something about them though, they were magnificent looking, almost magical or something. Anyway, they all come to a point and gather around this area that was sort of like a raised rock and they all stop. Then, all of the sudden, there’s like clouds around this rock and a man appears. Whitney and I run over there and are crying. It’s Jesus Christ and he looks just like they depict Him in the pictures at church. He has brown sort of long hair and a beard, a white robe. He’s smiling and holding His hands out and you can see His scars on His hands from far away. So, we are running toward Him and we hold His hands and kneel at His feet, we were so happy to see Him.

That was the end.

Weird, huh? You know how you can effect your emotions from a dream? Well, I definitely felt elated after this one.

Reply-"Fire"

So Im really excited Todd that you have decided to blog a bit! Its nice sometimes to get words out on paper (computer) rather than holding it in!

We have ALL had our "fire" in our lives, each in a totally different way. We have all learned to endure and keep fighting which makes our family strong! I look up to all of you and all your families. You have all been examples to me in so many different ways you'll never know. Im proud to call you my family.

Todd, thanks for your words regarding your past behavior, your trials, and your goals. You are an amazing man with so much in store for you. Remember you are still young and able to create and design your future to whatever you want! And i hope that you will give us advice on our new house. We really need help from all aspects of the project!

Sean, you are the biggest example to me. No matter what happens to you, you seem to always stay optimistic and keep moving forward. You have never felt sorry for yourself or let others see your pain and struggle. I respect how motivated you are and the confidence you have in yourself! I think you are more of an example to others then you may sometimes think.

Danielle. I love how prepared you are. I really want a fire box AND 6 months worth of food storage. Now that we are getting a bigger place Gordon and I plan on saving and preparing for the worst.

I hope everyone plans for the negative things that could possibly happen to our nation. We all need to plan together and figure out how to stay in touch and work together on these things.

What is with the fires?

I know we were lucky, but we just recently had a close call with all of the fires in our ward and stake boundaries.  I think it takes something scary sometimes to put things into perspective and remind us of what's really important.  Even though we were fine, I did a mental check of what we would take if we had to get out.  After the fire, I finally put together my "fire box" that mom and dad gave us, and double checked my food storage.  Things in this world seem to be going downhill and all we can do is be prepared spiritually and physically.  I admire you guys and all that you've gone through, you will only be stronger for it.  I feel like we are incredibly blessed in our family with talented, ambitious, and hardworking people, and I can see it being passed on through the grandkids.  That's one of the most important things; handing off the responsibility to the next generation.  I'm proud that my brothers and sisters and in-laws are all great parents and examples to their kids, and I'm grateful mom and dad taught us to work hard, and stand up for what's right.  I hope that all makes sense, it seems kind of all over the place.  Hope everyone is healthy and happy.

Trials by Fire...Todd's First Post

Alright, I am ready to do my first post.

I just read Sean's post about the fire and it made me think of some of my own trials and the experiences that Jill and I have had over the past few years. It has been an unbelievable roller coaster of joy and pain. Similar to Sean, at times it feels as though Murphy's law has dialed me in and handed me beating after beating. (A la Investment scandals, townhome fires, lawsuits, real estate project fiascoes, etc.) I'm 28 and I've already risen and fallen twice in a big way. I'm in law school and I'm already tired of litigation because of my fun times in the private investment world and real estate industry.

The real poetry of my woes has been that despite all the stress and disappointment, we have had some of our happiest moments while going through the low times. We have found out things about ourselves that we never would have known without challenges. We have grown closer as a family and we have learned to appreciate simplicity in life. Realizing that one doesn't have to have wealth and "things" to be happy has been an incredible blessing, especially for me. I think Jill had that figured out long before me. I'm very lucky that she has been patient enough to let me figure it out.

My new thought process: Life is as good as you want it to be. Perspective makes all the difference. As Sean mentioned, there are people suffering real challenges in the world and I wouldn't trade with anyone. My only hope is that I can learn everything I'm supposed to learn from these trials and come out a better person. I suppose as long as we're composed and handle things correctly, we can have peace by knowing that we're emerging stonger and more capable than ever. I hope this didn't come across as overly preachy or "poor me" in tone. Sean's post just struck a chord and I felt like putting some of my thoughts down on paper...errr blog paper.

On a different note, law school is. . .good. The best way I can describe it is a mental marathon. The material isn't that hard, it's just an issue of keeping tuned into all the minute details. I'm not sure exactly where this road is going to take me. I'm not fully convinced that practicing law is what I want to do. I still find that I have a love for "the deal" and I'm hoping that I can use my law degree together with my finance/real estate background to get into something that really charges me. (Ok, ok and something that makes sick dough). I'm terrified of being on someone else's clock and having to report to someone. I signed up for a mock interview program last week and I had my first job interview of my life. I wanted to get a few under the belt before I have a real one.

Whitney, I wanted to make sure you know that when I read your post I immediately started thinking of ideas for your condo and how I would go about doing it. Everyone thinks of Jill as the creative one but if you've ever seen me go to work on picking out paint, tile, countertops, fixtures etc., you would know that I love to do that stuff. When I say "do" I don't mean actually perform labor but I enjoy designing rooms and getting the Julios/Juans (see earlier post for discussion) to install and perform labor. Handy is something I am not. I would be glad to come consult the next time I'm over there.

Also, I appreciate every one's patience with me as I slowly emerge from my pompous shell and get used to kids, soccer games, family history, kids and Whitney's tattoos (j/k). I know that I've been self centered at times but I am determined to keep growing closer to the family. I have learned to love each of you and I know you guys are there for us whenever we need you. I hope you all know that you can count on Jill and I for anything as well.

Finally, at this moment we are all facing different challenges in life. As Sean said, things can change for the better way quicker than you can imagine. In the meantime, focus on simple happiness, keep pushing, and enjoy the journey. I'm pretty sure that's what this crazy life is all about anyway.

Update and just stuff

Hello all,
Whit, I feel bad I did not respond to your post. What a great exciting time to be a part of purchasing a new home, especially the kind you have to fix. It will have so much value to you when you are done. I will try and help wherever I can.

So to update, last year in March, we lost our shop in the fire. I had no insurance. Not sure if you all heard the story, but I dropped my insurance company I had, they didn't want to insure me because I didn't have sealed electrical boxes and switches. I had new quotes, and I procrastinated and did not get it taken care of. I mean, who's shop would really burn down? Anyway, it was deemed an accident, but it was shown by the fire department to have started in my unit. No criminal liability, but an insurance company is coming after me for $40,000 in damages. Warner Cabinets is an LLC, so I have an attorney helping me right now to make sure they don't come after me personally. As far as the company, I am closing it as Warner Cabinets and Millwork, LLC and opening another one as Quality Woodworks, LLC. Start over...again!

So, I try to grasp what's going through my mind...why me?...why again?...when will the bleeding stop? My answer is, we all have our problems, and I like mine better than others. There are so many worse things going on in peoples lives right now, I would much rather have the problems I have. I still have faith that I can handle what is placed before me. So, we handle it. Robin is a great partner to have. She still has faith in me, and my abilities. Wierd thing, we are acually getting busy. I have 2 entertainment centers lined up, a re-finish job in the works, and another huge entertainment center that just called me a couple days ago. I have a new home, and another one that I think I am getting any day now.

My kids are heathy, my wife is healthy, I have my home, we have our needs met as far as food and clothing. We are working on our food supply, and have a lot of it. Robin is working on regular foods we eat everyday, and making sure we have 3 months supply. We are working toward eliminating our debt. We still don't have a backyard, but I think we will do grass for the time being and some trees. And we are going to plant a big garden with Ken and Amy in our backyard.

What's the point of all this babeling? Be grateful for who we are and what we go through. We are all being put through the refiners fire. We need to make sure we do our best to get through problems. Work hard, give service, and be thankful for what we have and who we have in our lives. Because, in an instant, that can change!

Love you all, my family, my people!
And here's a pic to remember!

I don't know about everyone else, but I've talked to you a lot in person about the new house and everything, so I think that gets me off the hook.  One thing I do want to say is a huge Thank you to you and Gordon for watching the kids.  It sounds like it was not what you expected, and I'm sorry about all the mishaps, but you could look at it as good training; nothing ever goes as planned when there are kids.  I'm just glad I could count on you, the kids had a great time and they love their aunt Whitney.

Reply-"Ashley and Quotes"

so i have to say that I'm really bummed right now. I posted something that is big in my life (getting into a house) and NOBODY said anything! I even left it open at the end of it asking for opinions and answers to questions. SO why didn't any respond?

THEN, Ashley posts about good news with her job and you all responded right away with "way to go's" and "congratulations." (no offence ash, you know I'm routing for you) So did I do something to offend everyone?

Danielle. I think that game sounds so much fun. I have about 100 quotes from 1 movie, but i really need to work on my other stuff! cant wait to get there!

quotes

We played a game the other night with our friends.  It was simple; guess the movie quote.  I was crying from laughing so hard, and it made me excited for our girls weekend, because I know I can count on some good ones from the girls, so get prepared and brush up on those funny movies!

Ashley

I was thinking just what Jillian said, then I read her comment.  That sounds very complex, which means you should be getting paid more.  I know we've talked about that before.  And yes, it did remind me of the office, one of the best shows ever.  I'm proud to see my sister kicking butt out in the real world.

Ashley

I love hearing about your success at work. I was already impressed with you last summer when you were sent to Utah to train someone because you not only knew how and what to train, but that you were trusted by your company to do that for them. You are obviously a value to your company, and they know it. As far as a raise, sometimes they won't give them unless asked for them. You won't offend anyone by asking. However in this economic era, they have the best excuse to not give it now. I vote you ask for it. You explain the value you bring to the company, and what your contribution is. You explain that you are being paid for what they asked you to do, but you are doing more now. You explain that you like the company, and wish to stay, but must be paid according to your value!!!! Good luck with that.

So how is Ashley the person (as opposed to the worker) doing? How are you holding up, how or what is going on with jeff? We miss you, and wish we could be around to support you more. We do support you in your decisions, and wish and pray for the best blessings to be upon you. We hope all will work out well. I know it might be hard going through this, but it will pass.

It's interesting watching people, as we struggle with our problems, I notice everyone has them. I think I am more comfortable with the one's I have, usually, as much as I hate having and dealing with them.

Good luck, and great to hear about your success!

To Ashley

Wow... those were a lot of words that I kind of didn't understand, but it sounds good! Congrats on doing such a good job. Say hi to Jim and Pam for me!

PS- If you are making such a positive impact in your branch you DEMAND that raise!!!

Accomplishments

So I wanted to share with everyone what is exciting in my life right now. Work is going really well. My branch (because of me) has recently been chosen (along with one other branch out of the entire country) to consult with our IT programming people at our corporate office to improve our system and write a uniform procedure for our rebate programs (which is what I'm responsible for at my branch). I have trained others, contributed to and piloted new programs in the past and am still in the middle of a couple new programs which have all been the highlight for me working at R3 Papercraft. But this is even more exciting because I'm working directly with our Lead Business Analyst who is actually making changes to our system, which effects the entire country, because of what I've suggested to her. So, this is really cool for me...now I just need to get my boss to give me a raise. That is the part that I'm not good at.

New Topic-New house

Hey everyone, I just wanted to announce that Gordon is in escrow with a Townhouse in Duarte! He has been patiently looking for a house for about a year now, and with my help for the last 4 months. There are so many beaters out there that would cost too much money to fix up and the ones that were foreclosing seemed to already have 6 or 7 offers already. It was tough and very time consuming but we feel that going with this townhouse is the best choice right now.

It has 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath. Its 2 stories with a balcony off the master and super high ceilings in the family room. The garage is attached with a tiny bit of yard in the front and side. The complex has a pool and spa right across from our place and its in a really quite place overlooking the mountains.

We are so excited to get moving on it.....BUT.....it still needs some work. All new paint and floors. The ceilings need to be scrapped of their popcorn style. We want to replace all the plumbing, the kitchen and the bathrooms. SO, we need everyones advice on this one. How did you do things, where did you get things, who did you hire, who did you NOT hire, what are things worth, and are they deals that you found that would be helpful?

We need all the advice we can get, remember this is our first place!

PS escrow closes around the 1st of March and Gordon's knee surgery is scheduled on the 5Th......

Reply-"Superbowl & January Birthdays"

Hey everyone! I watched the commercial and was a little taken aback by it. I don't understand it really. Is it pro Obama? or against abortion? or both? I don't think that sort of commercial should be aired during the Superbowl, but with freedom of speech in our country I'm not really sure why they have the right to deny it?

Sean, thanks for the kind words and the birthday wish. I had a great birthday this year. We just had a birthday dinner tonight at Danielle's house. Mom was supposed to make dinner at her house but didn't want to because the kitchen is too torn up. So instead of making it at Danielle's she just orders in. So funny that she doesn't EVER want to cook. Oh well, it was nice to be with the Baileys, Mom, Dad, Ashley, and Grandma!

Thanks Again!

PS Sean, what ever happened with Jase and the car thing?
